Embracing Your Wife’s Uniqueness: Key to a Stronger Marriage

I remind you from time to time that your wife is unique. The better you understand this, the better your marriage will be.

This week, make a point of seeing who your wife is, where she’s not like you, and where she’s not like other women.

A note to those of you who read by e-mail: The system stopped sending mail last week. Sorry about that, fixed now. One of the things you missed is that Lori and I have joined the Aldrich Ministries Coaching Network. If you’re looking for marriage coaching, check them out.

The Power of Touch: Strengthening Your Marriage with Physical Connection

How often do you give your wife little touches? Hold her hand, pat her, put your arm around her, and so on?

Touch is powerful. It releases hormones and brain chemicals that can make both of you feel calmer and more connected. And a steady drip of that will, over time, have a profound positive effect on your marriage.

Make it a habit to touch her many times a day.

Thanking Your Wife for Doing “Her Job”

Yesterday, when my wife finished the dishes, I thanked her for doing them. And not just for doing them then, I thanked her for doing them all the time.

We’ve agreed that’s “her job” (I do the cooking these days) but I still wanted her to know I appreciate her doing it.

What does your wife do because it’s her job that you should thank her for doing?

Build a Bouquet of Love with Daily “Flowers”

I want to suggest you bring your wife a flower a day. But not a physical flower. Make it a kind word, an extra long hug, doing one of her chores, taking her out for dinner unexpectedly, or getting her a small gift.

Think of each of these acts as a new flower you’re adding to the bouquet of love you are building for her. Do one flower a day, and soon you will have a massive bouquet!

Make Your Marriage Better With Shared Experiences While Apart

I’ve told you that shared experiences make a marriage better. And you can have shared experiences even when you’re not together.

When you see something beautiful, cute, amazing, or funny, grab your phone and get a picture. Then send it to your wife. Or even better, share it with her the next time you’re together.

BTW, this tells her you think about her when you’re apart, and that’s a great message to send.

Sticky Note Reminders to Show Your Wife Love

Earlier this year, my wife (of 39 years!) did a post entitled Sticky Note Stewardship. She talked about how a sticky-note where you see it regularly is a good way to keep something on your mind. So why not do this to help remind you to show your wife love and affection every day.

My suggestion is to put the note(s) where you will see them, but she won’t. The high-tech version of this is to set a reminder on your phone.

T-shirtSpeaking of my wonderful wife, she made me a T-shirt for Christmas that has gotten a LOT of comments. If you’re a grandpa, or love someone who is, you can buy it here.

Hand Bells for a Better Marriage

Amazon has hand bells with the words “Ring for a Hug” or “Ring for a Kiss” on them.

So what are you waiting for?

Brighten Your Home And Marriage

Most of us are deep into winter. Make your home a bit brighter by getting some candles, real or battery, or some twinkle lights.

Putting these in the bedroom might be seen as particularly romantic.
