Last week over on the XY Code I said:
As hard as it is for me to say, I have found agreeing is more important than what you think. As long as you both freely think what you agree on, being of one mind will be a good thing for both of you.
I was surprised no one called me on that.
I’m a big fan of truth, and I think we can usually find the truth if we make an honest attempt to do so. But I have learned there are times when we can’t, and times when more than one thing is true. Additionally, there are times when fighting over the truth is unloving and worse.
There are places in marriage where the truth is critical. And there are places where walking together is more important than endless arguments about what is and is not true.
Sometimes knowing the truth isn’t critical. Other times it is, but the road to that truth is a journey, and doing the journey together is the way to go. And or course, grace and love are always a requirement, even when we’re sure we’re right and she’s wrong.
