One of the common marriage arguments is about the house, or a part of it, being messy. And the majority of the time it’s the wife upset about how messy her husband is.
A group on Instagram who say they are “#1 Community for Psychology Enthusiasts” dropped a post explaining why women are more sensitive to clutter than men. They said clutter causes the female brain to release cortisol faster and in greater quantities. This is because women have a more reactive limbic system, which makes them more sensitive to their surroundings. They went on to say that the brain associates clutter with chaos and lack of control, leading to feelings of anxiety and stress. And women are more likely to internalize these feelings due to higher activity in brain regions related to emotional processing.

I’ve not chased all the science on that, but most of it I know has a basis in fact. And I can see the reality of this in my marriage, and others I know.
The point I want to make here is that if you and your wife are normal, this is legitimately a much bigger issue for her than it is for you. It matters far more to her than it ever will to you. When you ignore it, you tell her what matters to her is unimportant to you. Kind of like how some men feel their wife is about sex!
Do the right thing. Do it because you love your wife, or because it’s the right thing, but do it.

thanks so much for doing an excellent job on this very practical topic. It was a great help taking away the mystery that has such irritating impact on such s high % of women —-while not being even on men’s radar!
(This is not a put down to either one simply now helps more supportive, and aware how we are different and what we can do to try to decrease the challenge that most wives have!)
