A comment on a recent post talked about how tricky it can be to urge your wife to do something she really should do. Taking better care of her body is one example, and it can be a minefield. You want her to lose weight, or exercise more, but suggesting those things results in a fight, or silence, or no sex for weeks.
So what can you do?

There is no magic formula here, but if you understand why she resists, it will help:
- She hears criticism from you, rather than concern.
- She thinks you want her to look better for your pleasure. Or even worse, she thinks you are embarrassed by her.
- She has been beat up about this in the past. Maybe it was her family, or being picked on at school.
- Being overweight is a form of self-protection she’s not ready to give up yet.
- Past failures have left her discouraged.
A good way to approach this is to say, “Let me know how I can help when you are ready to work on it.”
