The ‘Broken Like Me’ Approach to Marriage”

My wife is imperfect. She’s not always loving, and she says things we both regret later. Basically, she is broken. Just like I am broken.

There are places where she is more broken than I am. I could focus on those and feel superior. But there are places where I am more broken than her. And human nature being what it is, I have to work to focus on those.

Blue and pink T-shirts that say "I like that you are broken like me".

For a number of years now, when Lori does or says something I don’t like, or fails to do something I think she should do, I remind myself that my dear wife is broken. JUST LIKE ME! It helps me gain perspective, and reminds me that I hurt and fail her all too often.

I suggest you embrace “Broken like me” as a way of life. It will make your marriage better, and should lower your blood pressure a bit.
