Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. ~ Proverbs 13:12 ESV
I’ve seen a lot of folks hurt by hope deferred. I’ve also seen people crushed and destroyed by it. And sadly, I’ve seen a lot of that in marriage.

If you promise your wife something, and don’t come through, it will hurt her. If you do it often, it will crush her. And if you do it too frequently, your marriage will end, even if she doesn’t divorce you. Why you fail doesn’t really matter. Even if it’s a valid sounding reason, when it happens repeatedly, nothing is an acceptable excuse.
I’m asking you to guard your wife’s heart, from YOU!

I know it worked that way with me. It isn’t a stretch to imagine it would work that way for my wife. I’m definitely doing my best not to put her through that, even inadvertently.
