I often suggest that doing certain things has a good chance of resulting in your wife making a change you will like. This is basic human nature, and if it helps motivate you to do what you should, that’s great.
However, we need to do what’s right because it’s right. Even when it doesn’t result in the changes we want. And EVEN when it results in things we don’t like.

If Jesus was there with you, how would He urge you to treat your wife when she’s not being what she should be?
If we’re following Jesus, then there is a clear right and wrong. Given we’re called to be decent to our enemies, how much more must be required with your wife? Her sins and slights aren’t irrelevant, but they in no way justify any sin or slight on your part. When she’s being horrible, you have to behave like a follower of Jesus, not the frustrated or angry man inside pushing for you to retaliate.

Very true. It is critical to remember this even when things get difficult, even when it doesn’t seem to be getting any better for a long period of time. Don’t let despair push this knowledge aside like I once did. It won’t make things better. It will make things much worse. Trust God and RUN TO Him when it hurts. Always run toward God. Praise Him when you can’t see any light or hope and trust Him anyway. God WILL make a way. It may not be easy and it may not happen when you think it should but His way is best and His timing is perfect. HOLD ON. Don’t let go. Don’t give up, whatever you do. Even if you feel like you are hanging by a thread, as long as that thread is His, it is enough.
When you praise through darkness and tears, you will find it brings the best and sweetest blessings. God loves you more than you can ever fathom and He will not leave you or forsake you. You may not perceive Him but He IS there and He is working it all together for your good and His glory. Giving up isn’t worth it. Having faith in Him is. Praising Him through the storms is. It is SO worth it!
Great encouragement and admonition!
