Emergency No Cooking Fund

For the last third of our marriage, I have been the primary cook around our place. So I understand that sometimes you stand looking into the refrigerator or cabinet and have no idea what to make for dinner, or where you will find the energy and brain space to make it happen. I’ve been known to stand there staring blankly and then announce, “We should fast tonight”. If your wife does most of the cooking, she feels this way at times.

So create an emergency fund for when cooking is beyond her. Be it take out, delivery, or going out, you will bless her and earn points for being ready to help.

Paul, we came to a very workable plan when I heard my bride say again, “I don’t know what to make for dinner tonight!”

I asked if she wanted my help. When she said, “Yes!” I made this suggestion: “Honey, I will give you a month’s worth of daily meal entrée’s, and some side dishes, and since you like to cook, you do that part.” She was happy to let me plan and we make the grocery list together and shop together. My enjoyment is making structured plans so this was a “win-win” for both of us. She enjoys coking when the meals are laid out for her.

We structure the meals around our scheduled classes, ladies time out, etc.

I would be happy to supply a free weekly structure for your readers if that will help them! Paul, I will send it to you and you share it with them.

I do all my planning on Sunday evenings, write a list of each day’s meals for the week. I don’t have to think about it after that, just consult the menu. I started doing this when I worked full time and had children in school.
