Trust In A World Of Fakes

Being a generous husband means going above and beyond to show your love and appreciation for your spouse. It’s about understanding their needs and desires, and making an effort to fulfil them. This can be as simple as preparing their favourite meal or surprising them with a thoughtful gift. Generosity in a marriage also means being supportive, both emotionally and financially, and being willing to compromise and make sacrifices for the sake of the relationship. Ultimately, being a generous husband means prioritizing your spouse’s happiness and well-being, and striving to create a loving and fulfilling partnership.

The passage at the top was not written by me. Or by anyone, actually. It was the result of me asking ChatGPT to “Write a short passage about being a generous husband.” And the image is not me, although if you knew me, you might think it is. The image came from asking the Wombo AI art program to provide “Paul Byerly in straw hat”. It found a base image of me on the web – had I given it an image to work with, it would be even better.

We live in a world where it’s getting really easy to fake things. We can’t believe our eyes, and it’s only going to get worse. In a few years it will be possible to fake something written by someone so well no one is sure. And voice faking is also possible. It will also be possible to produce fake images or even videos of anyone doing anything. I’m waiting for the first blackmail case based on a fake image.

All of this means real, hard won trust is going to become far more important. If you showed me an image of my wife having sex with anyone other than me, I would not believe it was real, no matter how real it might look. I know and trust my wife far too much to be fooled.

How about your marriage? How solid is the trust? Have you so proven your faithfulness, your wife would reject a fake image of you cheating, or a faked lover letter to another woman that sounds just like you?

Clearly, this is going to be a problem well beyond marriage. Being a man of integrity is going to be more important than ever.
