Thirty Eight Years, And Plenty of Fish

Friday was our thirty-eighth anniversary. We went to the Y, as we usually do on Fridays. We did a bit of shopping on the way home. And we had a long lunch at Red Lobster.

Way back when, after our early afternoon wedding, we went home and, ah, did something private. Then we went back to my parent’s house, where our reception had been, to gather gifts. We offered to treat my parents to dinner as a thank you for all they had done for us. My mom was a huge fan of Red Lobster, so we took them there. Come our first anniversary, we ate at a different Red Lobster. And we did it again, our second anniversary. I would guess we’ve done that for at least 30 of our anniversaries over the years at a Red Lobster. It’s a special tradition, and we enjoy it.

Traditions are powerful things. They bring back the feelings from the other times we engaged in the tradition. It makes us feel connected, which helps us feel close and intimate.

What traditions do you and your wife share? Should you build some new ones?
