I came across something very old (’70s) that said once a man’s orgasm starts it can’t be stopped, but if stimulation stops while a woman is having an orgasm, her orgasm is halted.
That sort of sounded right to me, but not exactly. So I did some digging. Not a lot has been written about this, but there is some and for the most part, it agrees with the above.
Let’s start with men. Once we get past the point of no return, we are going to climax even if all stimulation stops. It won’t be as good, but we will still ejaculate and feel pleasure. Beyond that, the penis becomes hypersensitive when a man reaches orgasm. How sensitive varies from man to man and decreases with age, but it’s nearly universal. This is why men slow down or stop thrusting while they come during intercourse. Most men find a bit of reduced stimulation during climax makes it better, but it’s not critical.
Women are different. I saw a range of experiences for various women, but some confirm that their orgasm hard stops when stimulation does. Others say they have a much longer orgasm if stimulation continues and most said they have a better orgasm with continued stimulation. Some women experience hypersensitivity with orgasm, but some don’t and those who do don’t have it nearly as bad as men.
So, when she comes, she needs continued stimulation for her best orgasm. She might want you to keep doing what got her there all the way through her climax. She might want you to do the same thing but taper it off through her orgasm. Or she might want you to change to something that is less focused on her clitoris. But if you do for her what you would do for yourself, she won’t get nearly the pleasure she could.
So how do you figure out what she wants? If you ever get to watch your wife masturbate, pay attention to what she does from the start to finish of her orgasm. If she can climax from intercourse, pay attention to what she does when she is on top. If you can’t do these and she won’t talk about it or has no idea, then it’s trial and error.
