Mom Got Run-over By Christmas – AGAIN!

I’ve heard women discuss their love/hate relationship with Christmas. The bottom line is most of them have way too much to do. This is especially true for mothers of younger children. If you have kids, especially kids younger than high-school age, the chances are very good your wife has mixed feelings about the holidays… at best. Men, it should not be this way!

Overwhelmed mother during the Christmas time madness.

What you can do about this will depend on your family, on how much you’re willing and able to do, and how much you and your wife are willing to cut back. Have a long talk with your wife and start by saying you don’t want her to feel stressed or overwhelmed for the next several weeks. Tell her what you’re willing to take on and ask what you could do that would really make a difference for her. Then cut back as needed.

Yes, I know this isn’t the first time I’ve hit this topic this year. The reason I keep nagging about it is that I’m seeing more and more holiday burnout, and I’m seeing it earlier and earlier. Jesus came to give us life and set us free, not to make us slaves to traditions and the desires of others. Over the last decade, Lori and I have significantly simplified our Christmas and the result is we enjoy it more. Please consider my words and please assume until your wife says otherwise that the holidays are more difficult for her than they are for you.
