Last night we started the Christmas music. Usually, it starts November 1st or the first decent snow, whichever comes last. But this year both of those passed without any Yule tunes.
I changed operating systems last spring, moving to Ubuntu. Moving my music was easy; my playlists not so much. I’ve been so busy I’d not made the time to get that done. Last night I knocked it out and started, as always, with Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Wizards In Winter at full blast. Both Lori and I loved it and we’ve been enjoying the music all day today. This little ritual is emotionally healing for both of us and I really wish I’d done it sooner.
When we get really busy we tend to get tunnel vision, seeing only what we need to do to get out the other end. Within reasonable boundaries that’s helpful, but when it keeps us from doing things that we need or that would make us feel better about life, that’s a problem. When it keeps us from doing the things our wife needs from us, that’s a problem and a mistake.
What half-hour thing could you do that would make your life and/or your wife’s life better, saner, or more relaxing?
