If It Matters To You…

Yesterday I said what matters to your wife should matter to you. What about the reverse?

Couple playing video game together.

If something matters to you, your wife should respect and honour that. She doesn’t have to feel the same way or be as into it as you are, but she should see it as important because you see it that way.

Of course, if you haven’t been doing the same for her, expecting it from her is unfair. But if you support her in what she does and encourage her to do what she enjoys, you should expect the same from her. If you’re not getting that, have a discussion about it.

If you can get her to join you, that’s a big win. But if she respects you doing it, that’s good enough.

One response to “If It Matters To You…”

  1. Don’t care about encouragement,
    don’t care about respect.
    Praise is not my nourishment,
    so please don’t genuflect.
I know the worth in what I do,
    and I need not share
something that’s not true for you,
    for it is only fair
that I see you as you are,
    and not an extension
of my bright and shining star
    (wow, dude, such pretension!),
and not demand that you should live
    in affirmation you can’t give.
