Lori and I spend Tuesday mornings at a local coffee shop. We both have more or less regular meetings with friends, and other folks from church pass through and may join us.
Last week my usual coffee date wasn’t able to make it. So I sat and had coffee and read things on my phone. My wife and her friend were across the room. I could see them, and because my ears are still better than most folks, I heard bits and pieces. I delighted in hearing my wife laugh and enjoy her time with another woman.

I have no doubt I am my wife’s best friend. But I’m not a woman and she needs regular contact with other women. I can’t give her that, other than by making sure she gets into town to do it.
No matter how much your wife loves you and enjoys being with you, she needs time with other women. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your wife, and your marriage, is to send her off with a friend or two. Don’t just encourage her to do it, make it easy by taking care of the kids. And don’t leave her a big mess to deal with when she gets home.

Barb needs to go and do her thing
and let her nets be cast,
let her heart and hope take wing,
for I am fading fast.
She don’t need to stay be with me
and hold my fevered hand,
for at the end of my story,
she’ll go into another land
for which she must right now prepare,
that transition may be smooth,
because I simply won’t be there
to encourage, and to soothe
her heart from stab of lonely fear
at absence of a life once dear.
The mess part is really important!!
Recharging with friends might not even seem worth it if you know the whole house will be a wreck when you get back.
Totally agree alchemist😁
