The Sound of Silence

I know some husbands who would kill for a bit of silence in their home, especially after a long hard day at the office.

I also know wives would kill for some real adult conversation, especially after a long day dealing with young children.

And all too often, these husbands and wives are married to each other and his need for quiet and her need to talk are at odds.

Parents tired of noisy children who are running and shouting

Both needs are valid, so the question is how do you accomplish both? There are a variety of ways of doing that and what works for you will be individual. My point here is to make you aware that both needs are valid to ensure you work so both of you get what you need. Neither of you should completely sacrifice what you need!

A related note for grandparents: Each Sunday evening Lori and I take our grandsons for a couple of hours. We feed them and keep them from getting injured while mom and dad have some time to themselves. The kids enjoy it, mom and dad love it, and we survive it. If you live anywhere near any of your kids with kids, please consider doing something similar. It might be every other week or once a month overnight. Anything you can do will be a huge blessing!

Amen to that… Watching grandkids is one of the gifts that we have tried to give our kids. I remember my wife saying “I just want to be able to talk in complete sentences” :)
