What Should You Not Be Accepting?

“One grows used to things, even if sometimes one shouldn’t.” ~ Pogo on The Umbrella Academy

I think that’s a deep and insightful quote with a great deal of relevance to marriages.

Accept and reject buttons.

Often it’s easier to “get used to” things than to fight for our rights or preferences. But easier does not mean wise or right!

Each thing we decide to put up with might in and of itself be no big deal. But if we do this hundreds of times, the mass of those things can crush the life out of us.

One option is to verbally state that something is not acceptable and then move on even if it’s not changed. This is not accepting or getting used to whatever, it’s choosing to not fight it right now but marking it as not acceptable. If that changes things, great. If not, be ready to do more than saying it’s not okay.
